Netbook Reflection

WALT record what learning on our netbooks this year has been like, what we have enjoyed, what has been difficult, what has been interesting.

At the start of the year Room 6 was very lucky to get black, shiny, brand new netbooks! I felt so happy and excied because it was my first time having my own netbook.

I have really liked having my own blog. We can send emails to our teacher so he can check our work. We can share our learning with the world on our own blog.

Some small problems is that sometimes the internet connection doesn’t work and the mouse doesn’t work. Sometimes the screen freezes .

It has been really interesting posting our learning on your blog. You can make movies and edit them. You can post comments to other people’s blog.

I think netbooks are perfect for our learning!

My Fractions

In Maths this term we have been learning about FRACTIONS

I can find fractions of whole numbers like:

½ of 12 = 6                     ⅓ of 9= 3           1/10 of 20=2

⅔ of 12=8                        ⅘ of 10= 8

I can recognise when a  fraction is greater than 1:

½ + ½ + ½ =1 1/2

⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ =1 1/3

7/4 = 1 3/4

My kiwi report

The kiwi is a small flightless bird. It is only found in New Zealand.

The kiwi has a long beak, that it use to dig worms and eat it. It is covered with brown fur. It has short legs, with sharp, strong claws.

The kiwi’s lives in the forest, mainly in the north of New Zealand. many live in the special islands that don’t have predators.

The kiwi uses it’s beak to dig in the ground. It’s eats worm and other bugs.

The kiwi lags one large egg. The egg is huge compared to the size of the kiwi. Kiwi can run faster than a human. The kiwi sleep during the daytime, and hunts for food at night.

I think the kiwi is a little strong bird and it is very cute.

How to make a Tapa Cloth

Sketching the shells

Firstly, we had to sketch some shells with a pencil. We had to sketch the outline and the main  lines on the inside of the shell. When we were finished we drew a border around the shell pattern.

Transferring design

Secondly, we  transferred the best shell design onto a piece of brown cardboard. Then we drew the border carefully. Next we drew over it with vivid so that the lines would be dark and stand out.

Scrunching the cardboard

Next, we had to scrunch the cardboard 30 times. We did this so that the cardboard would be soft like cloth. When we were finished scrunching the cardboard, we had to flatten it. When it was flattened, it was smooth and soft.

Colour the tapa cloth

Finally, we had to add some colour to our tapa cloth. We could only use the black and brown. We had to color some of the tapa cloth. When it was finished I was very happy with my design.
